Earlier in the fall, I made a conscious decision to relax on my usual goal-setting for a while
because of a milestone birthday; I wanted to both reflect and celebrate moving forward. It felt
great to do so. Coming back to normal life, though, was a bit of a shock.
My first day back at East Van Barbell Club hurt a lot, and my pushup numbers were hardly half
of what they should have been. Next, I paid a visit to Martina at Train on Main for help on
improving my shoulder shape, and she informed me that my first priority was actually to shed
some excess body fat… ouch! The truth hurts.
Sometimes you just have to crunch whatever numbers you need to know, put your head down,
and focus on your goals and priorities.
Smart, how?
The SMART acronym stands for specific, measurable, achievable, results-focused, and time-bound. These qualities ensure that goals don’t slip into the realm of vague eventualities.
SMART goal setting keeps you on task and provides a framework to set smaller goals on the way
to the larger target. On the way there, mini rewards – or conversely, penalties – can provide
motivation boosts.
I’ve got my target goals and game plan clearly laid out now. Contact me you need help with your
own…and good luck!
